How to Measure Your Hand for Gloves
One measurement — hand circumference — gives you your glove size. Here's how to take it, then convert it below.
- Use your dominant hand (usually the larger one).
- Wrap a soft tape around your palm at the knuckles, excluding the thumb.
- Keep your hand relaxed and flat, tape snug but not tight.
- Read the number in inches — that's essentially your glove size.

Tips for the best fit
- Measure at room temperature — cold hands read smaller.
- Fingers should reach the ends of the glove without extra material.
- Between sizes? Size up for warmth, down for grip and dexterity.
- For liners worn under gloves, size the outer glove up slightly.

Which hand should I measure?
Measure your dominant hand — the one you write with — since it's usually slightly larger. Glove pairs are sized to the bigger hand, so this gives the better fit.
Do I include my thumb in the measurement?
No. Wrap the tape around the palm across the knuckles of the four fingers, keeping the thumb out of the loop. Including the thumb would overstate your size.
What if I don't have a tape measure?
Wrap a strip of paper or string around your knuckles, mark the overlap, and measure that length against a ruler in inches. Enter it in the converter — the inch figure is essentially your glove size.
Should I also measure hand length?
For most gloves, circumference is enough. Some brands also use hand length (wrist crease to fingertip) to fine-tune finger fit — if a brand asks for it, measure with your hand flat and fingers together, and follow their chart.
