Belt Size Converter

The rule is simple: belt size = pant waist size + 2 inches. So if you wear 34-inch pants, buy a 36-inch belt. That puts the prong on the middle hole, giving you room to adjust in both directions. Enter your pant size above and the tool gives you the belt size to order.

A belt's size is the length from where the leather meets the buckle to the middle hole, in inches. It is not the total end-to-end length. That's why belt size lines up with your waist plus about two inches, rather than the raw strap length.

Measure around where you actually wear your pants (over a shirt, not skin-tight) with a soft tape, or measure a belt you already own from the buckle fold to the hole you use. Enter either figure — the converter handles waist measurements and known belt sizes.

European belts are labeled by length in centimeters, usually in steps of 5. A US 36-inch belt is about EU 90, a 40-inch is EU 100. The converter shows the cm size alongside the inch size.

Belts come in even inch sizes with several holes, so a small in-between amount is covered by the holes. If you're right between two sizes, size up — you can always use a tighter hole, and many belts can be trimmed at the tail.
