How do I convert pant size to belt size?
Add 2 inches to your pant waist size. A 34 becomes a 36-inch belt, a 36 becomes a 38, and so on. The extra length puts the buckle prong on the middle hole, so you have room to tighten or loosen.
Why is a belt bigger than my pant size?
A belt is measured to its middle hole, and it wraps over your waistband, layers, and any shirt tucked in — so it needs a couple of inches more than your bare pant size to sit comfortably on the center hole.
Does the +2 rule work for all waist sizes?
It's a reliable starting point across the common range. Very slim or very large waists can vary by a hole, and thicker waistbands or heavy layering may push you to +3. Buying a belt with several holes covers the difference.
What belt size if my pants are an odd number?
Belts usually come in even inch sizes. For an odd pant size (say 33), add 2 to get 35, then round up to the next even belt size (36) and use an inner hole.
