Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a percentage to GPA?
Match your percentage to its letter-grade band and read off the grade points. On the standard US scale, 93–100% is an A (4.0), 90–92% an A− (3.7), 87–89% a B+ (3.3), and so on down to below 60% (F, 0.0). The converter above does this instantly for any percentage.
What is a good GPA?
On a 4.0 scale, 3.0 (a B average) is solid, 3.5+ is strong, and 3.7–4.0 is excellent and competitive for selective programs. Anything below 2.0 is usually below the minimum for good academic standing. Context matters — course rigor and school vary.
Is this a weighted or unweighted GPA?
This tool uses the unweighted 4.0 scale, which caps at 4.0 regardless of course difficulty. Weighted scales add points for honors or AP/IB courses (often up to 5.0), so a weighted GPA can exceed 4.0. Convert individual grades here, then weight them if your school does.
Do all schools use the same GPA scale?
Most US schools use the 4.0 scale shown here, but the exact percentage cutoffs differ — some treat 90–100% as a flat A (4.0) with no minus grades, and a few use a 4.3 scale where A+ is above 4.0. Check your school's official scale for the precise cutoffs.
How do I convert GPA back to a percentage or letter?
Use the 'GPA → letter' tab above: enter your grade point and it returns the nearest letter grade and its percentage range. Because a GPA is a rounded scale, the percentage is given as the band that letter covers rather than a single number.
